Participle clauses jako "kamera":

Participle clauses pozwalają filmowo przeskakiwać między czynnościami bez spójników — pokazują tło, równoległą czynność albo perspektywę (background action or perspective):

"She crossed the border at midnight, carrying nothing but a small backpack and a phone with 3% battery, not knowing whether the guesthouse was still open."

vs.

"She crossed the border at midnight. She was carrying only a small backpack and a phone with 3% battery. She didn't know whether the guesthouse was still open." (płaskie)

Absolut + inwersja dla dramatyzmu: (C1 style — optional upgrade)

"The guesthouse dark, the owner apparently asleep, she knocked anyway — having come too far to turn back."

"Rarely had she felt so completely alone — and, she would later reflect, so completely alive."

Refleksja wpleciona w narrację:
