Operations on fractions · simplifying · mixed numbers

Addition/subtraction: bring to a common denominator. Multiplication: numerator × numerator, denominator × denominator. Division: multiply by the reciprocal.
Operations on common fractions with automatic simplification. For addition and subtraction the fractions are brought to a common denominator:
Multiplication is the product of numerators and denominators , and division — multiplying by the reciprocal .
The result is shown in lowest terms, as a mixed number and as a decimal.
You bring them to a common denominator (the product of the denominators is the simplest choice), add the numerators, and reduce the result. The calculator does this and simplifies right away.
You multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal of the second (swap its numerator and denominator). E.g. 3/4 : 1/2 = 3/4 · 2/1 = 6/4 = 3/2.
