Volume of a cylinder

V=πr2HV=\pi r^2 H

Result unit: volume units

What it describes

The volume of a cylinder with base radius rr and height HH.

Symbols

VV
volume
rr
base radius
HH
height

Where it comes from

This is a prism with a circular base — the area of the circle πr2\pi r^2 multiplied by the height.

When to use it

Cylinders: pipes, cans, columns.

Example

Base radius 2 cm, height 10 cm. Find the volume of the cylinder.
Substitutionr=2r=2, H=10H=10.
ResultV=π⋅4⋅10=40π≈125.7V=\pi\cdot4\cdot10=40\pi\approx125.7 cm³.
